Announcing the Return of Mayo Clinic EmbodyHealth and HRA in 2008

NASA's Office of the Chief Health and Medical Officer (OCHMO) is pleased to announce the second year of access to Mayo Clinic EmbodyHealth, a trusted source of health information prepared by experts at the Mayo Clinic.

Beginning March 24, 2008, NASA civil service and contractor employees will have the opportunity to join the thousands in our workforce who are already using the secure Mayo Clinic EmbodyHealth Web site. Visit http://www.nasahealthieryou.com and when you complete the online registration form, use the unique identifier: healthiernasa (one word, not case sensitive).

Take 15 minutes to better understand your health risks by completing the online Health Risk Assessment (HRA). The first 1,000 employees (including last year's participants) who complete the HRA are eligible to receive an incentive, a blue stainless steel thermos with the NASA Occupational Health URL, www.ohp.nasa.gov. Completion of the HRA produces a Personal Health Report summarizing your medical and lifestyle risk factors. Utilize your personal physician or your center/facility onsite Occupational Health Clinic staff to better understand the report and to formulate a plan for change towards a "Healthier You." For further information, visit: http://ohp.nasa.gov/disciplines/hpromo/campaigns/2008/index.html

NASA will not have access to any of your personal health information that you provide to the Mayo Clinic EmbodyHealth Program and will not receive a copy of your HRA but will receive only aggregate data to better trend, plan and deliver population-based preventive health programs across the agency, such as the HealthierYou Campaign and the associated health calendar.

For more details, visit http://www.ohp.nasa.gov or contact Gail Bantugan at 321-867-3164 or gail.a.bantugan@nasa.gov or Mae Hafizi at 321-867-3646 or homeyra.hafizi-1@nasa.gov

February: American Heart Month

The American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute have launched a new “Act in Time” campaign to increase awareness of the importance of dialing 9-1-1 immediately at the onset of heart attack and stroke symptoms. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both women and men. Stroke is the third leading cause of death and a leading cause of serious disability. Heart attack warning signs include discomfort in the center of the chest, arm, back, neck, jaw, shortness of breath, nausea or sweating. Stroke symptoms include sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, confusion, trouble speaking or understanding, visual changes, loss of balance or sudden severe headache. It is crucial to obtain medical care within the first hour of a heart attack and within three hours of the start of stroke symptoms.
