SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Pest Activity in NASA Headquarters

Recently, pests have become a significant problem on several floors. The combination of construction in the area and the allure of food in the offices and workstations have intensified this problem. The most effective way to relieve the workplace of pests is to prevent them from wanting to live here. The following tips are among the simplest preventative measures to take to protect your area:

Basic Pest Control: Nontoxic Prevention

  • Perishable food should not be left out. Utilize one of the refrigerators to store your food after you have sealed it in an airtight container.
  • Non-Perishable food (snacks, nuts, crackers, etc.) should be kept in an airtight container that is solid (hard plastic, glass or metal).
  • Stacks of papers should be kept to a minimum or eliminated altogether.
  • Move boxes and personal items from the floor to keep the floor space open and clear.
  • Utilize filing cabinets to store excess paper that cannot be discarded. Items placed in these units should be kept clean and neat.
  • Clutter should be kept to a minimum.
  • Use your good housekeeping habits by cleaning up food and waste immediately after meals. Throw food away in centralized locations such as the Galley area.

If you see signs or sightings of pests, please initiate a work-order in the Facilities Help Desk System. Below is the following procedure and attached sample:

TRANSPORTATION FRINGE BENEFITS INCREASE - effective April 1, 2009.
The monthly subsidy for Transportation Fringe Benefits limits for transit and vanpools has increased from $115 to $120. Federal legislation allows employers to offer their employees public mass transportation benefits of up to $120 maximum per month ($1,440 per year) http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/rp-07-66.pdf NASA Headquarters uses the Vouchers and Smart Benefits program, which was established through Metro. Vanpool riders are required to go into the Metro database to update their accounts to reflect the $120 amount. Other Metro participants need not do anything further for their account to reflect the increase. Contact: Rose Butler, 358-0184 or Clint Green, 358-0825

PARKING PERMITS INCREASE - effective April 1, 2009.
Garage parking permits are available to Civil Service personnel via quarterly subscriptions and are assigned on a point system per HQPD 1541.2J for eligible carpools and vanpools, individuals, executive and key personnel, and disabled employees.
